What has become obvious as you AGED?

Life is more fragile than it seems at a younger age. From one moment to another we find our paths taking an unexpected turn. Sometimes this shift is positive, others, it can be disastrous.

Also, expectations can diminish our life quality. Eventually we tend to become a bit more cynical about everything because we have been hurt enough times.

This is not as bad as it seems. It forces us to live in the now, being more alert to what is happening around us, and dream a little less, of course.

And life doesn’t have to be complicated. For a long time, we accumulate things, ideas, money, relationships, and experiences. Later, when we pass our mid life span, we begin to discard all of that, especially what we no longer use, or never used, and try to simplify our lives the best we can.

Finally, the older I get the less I know. This happens for at least two reasons:

  • We have come to realize that we were wrong about the world most of the times.
  • We incrementally forget things for lack of usage,
  • or because our minds are not as reliable as they used to be.

The word “obvious” from your question doesn’t have the same meaning to me now than when I was younger.

Nothing is that obvious anymore, I learned that from experience. Many times, what I thought it was, it wasn’t. This sort of realization can happen a day later, or after decades have passed.
